Forced to Fly
Faith, God's Plan, Trust
Illustration
Eagles have a unique and effective way of teaching their young to fly. When it’s time for the eaglets to leave the nest, the parent eagle starts by removing the soft feathers and down that make the nest comfortable. This exposes the sharp sticks and thorns underneath, making the nest an uncomfortable place to stay. If that doesn’t encourage the eaglets to leave, the parent eagle might even nudge them out of the nest, forcing them to confront the reality of flight. Though it seems harsh, this process is essential for their growth. Without the discomfort and the push, the eaglets would never discover their ability to fly.

Application
Just like the parent eagle removes the feathers from the nest to make it uncomfortable for the eaglets, God allows discomfort or challenges in our lives to help us grow in faith and trust in Him. These moments of discomfort can be difficult and bewildering, but they are part of God’s loving plan to develop our reliance on Him and to strengthen our walk with Jesus. When we face trials and are pushed out of our comfort zones, we have the opportunity to experience God’s provision and power in amazing ways that we’re often blind to when we’re comfortable. Similar to the eaglets discovering their ability to fly, we too can find new strength and capabilities in our walk with the Lord when we trust in His plan. Trusting in God’s plan, even when it leads us into uncomfortable situations, helps us to grow spiritually and fulfill the purposes God has for us. These nudges from God teach us to rely on Him rather than our own comfort, deepening our faith and drawing us closer to Him.
